How do I pick a therapist?

Therapy is a very unique and vulnerable place to be, it is important to connect with someone you feel you can really connect and feel safe with. The goodness of fit does not just go with specific training and techniques your looking for, but is a personal connection that just feels like a good fit.

Good questions to ask yourself is:

  1.    Do I feel I can trust this person?

  2.    Do I feel safe with them?

  3.    Can I be open and tell what is really going on with me?

  4.    Do I respect their input?

  5.    Do I feel they will help me pursue my goals in therapy?

If the answer is yes to these, the outcome of your time in counseling will be more worthwhile.

What can I expect at a first session?

I recommend you fill out and complete your forms before arriving (so we don’t use any time on paperwork). To get to forms use link here. The first session is a chance to get to know you and for you to get to know me and see if it is a good fit for what you are looking for. This first meeting will give you a chance to bring any questions you have for me and for me to hear what brings you in to therapy and what you want to accomplish in therapy. We will work together to make sure I understand what your goals are and how I maybe able to help.

What is your training and background?

If you would like to know more about me please see my “About Amy” page.
